The Specialty Crop Research Initiative is a collaborative research project between NMSU, UCDAVIS and TAMU. The research focus of NMSU is on Pecans and are centered on the Objective 4: Determine the physiological and soil environmental properties that regulate N and water uptake at the root system level.
The specific objectives of this research are to quantify the: (1) depth-wise water extraction pattern, (2) depth-wise root-distribution pattern, (3) depth-wise moisture release functions for soil, (4) provide input data to validate the proposed irrigation/fertilization model, and (5) compare the performance of different root water uptake models.
