Asi' Es Nuevo Mexico

The Activity
The students in my class completed a research/review/wrap-up project on New Mexico. Each group worked on something different about our state (history, famous people, geography, and recreation). Each group was then introduced to HyperStudio for the first time. Using the classroom computer, I helped each group enter their information and graphics and then link it with the other student's work. At the same time, they learned to use a lot of the basic tools on HyperStudio.

Helpful Hints

This lesson worked well. The students picked up (and were amazed by) the basic features of HyperStudio. However, be sure to have a lot patience while introducing the program. Sitting down with individual groups really gave me a good chance to do some individualized teaching. Make sure their work is completed before starting with the computer.

When using HyperStudio, you have a choice between drawing your own graphics using the program, or drawing the graphics on paper and scanning them into the program.

Last of all, but probably the most important hint, make sure you know how to use HyperStudio well before teaching the students.
