Southwestern Art and Science

Consider that you are a Southwestern art dealer hired by a renowned scientist, Dr. Victoria Ramirez. Dr. Ramirez would like two pieces of southwestern art. The first piece must contain a southwestern desert biome. The second piece can be your choice.

The Task
In order to find and submit your selections you need to do the following:

• Use the websites in your resources to view the myriad art selections available.
• Select the art pieces.
• Create your proposal.

• Southwest Cultural, Historical, Geological, and Anthropological Pointers
• Pictures and Art in New Mexico
• ArtNet
• Collector's Guide to the Art of New Mexico
• Contemporary Southwestern Hispanic Art - Read about traditional Hispanic folk art produced in the Southwest (especially New Mexico) during the 20th century.
• Search engines such as Altavista are a great resource!

The Process

To accomplish your task, follow the steps below. Be sure to have paper and pencil handy in order to write down information and to note sites you'd like to return to.

1. Click on sites in resources and begin viewing southwestern art.

2. Focus on one piece at a time, first finding a piece that contains a southwestern desert biome and then a piece of your choosing.

3. For your proposal you need to have the following information about each piece of art:

• The address and name of the site you found the piece.
• The name of the artist.
• The price (if available).
• A paragraph describing it.

4. Once you've gathered your information, create a professional (neat) proposal to present to Dr. Ramirez.

5. For extra credit, create your own southwestern art masterpieces to submit for evaluation.
