About the Department

Brochure for the Department of Family and Consumer Science outlining each of their degrees. Clothing, Textiles & Fashion Merchandising (CTFM) Focuses on diverse aspects of the fashion industry, and includes supporting course work in business and art. Students complete internships in retail or design. Career Opportunities Fashion Buyer, Fashion Coordinator and Stylist, Fashion Designer, Sales Representative, Store/Department manager, Entrepreneur. Family & Child Science (FCS) Focuses on helping families and children grow and develop in positive ways. Students complete an internship in human services agencies. Career opportunities: Parent educator, gerontologist, child life specialist, youth director, developmental specialist, military family life advocate, marriage and family therapist. Family & Consumer Sciences Education (FCSE) Focuses on the skills to be an effective teacher in educational, community, or business settings. Students complete internships in public schools or cooperative extension offices. Career opportunities: Middle or high school family and consumer science teachers, business manager/owner, county extension agent. Food Science & Technology (FSTE) Focuses on the nature, deterioration, processing and improvement of foods for consumers as well as the preservation, packaging, processing, and distribution of food products. Students complete internships in food production facilities. Career opportunities: Inspector, production supervisor, research chef, product developer, food plant manager. Human Nutrition & Dietetic Sciences (HNDS) Focuses on the promotion of health and the prevention of disease. Students complete internships in community and clinical settings. Career opportunities: clinical dietitian, food service director, corporate wellness coordinator, rehabilitation program director, community nutritionist, public health nutritionist.
