Family Resource Center

  • Family Resource Center
The Family Resource Center is a family centered facility which welcomes all NMSU and DACC student families. Ongoing family activities provide opportunities for parents and children, along with the FRC staff, to engage in fun, creative and educational activities.

Field Experience

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences maintains linkages with various agencies to provide supervised pre-professional internships and practical training of students. Agencies include industry, businesses, cooperative extension service, day care centers, hospitals, food service establishments, and retail organizations. Students are placed with agencies that provide on-the job experience in career-related occupations. Students work under the joint supervision of an agency supervisor and an instructor in the department.

Media Resource Center

The Departments of Extension Home Economics and Family and Consumer Sciences have created a Media Resource Center stocked with a variety of books, videos, and kits to support our extension, research and education missions. Materials are for use by Extension and Academic faculty and staff; they are not available to the general public. Most items can be checked out for 30 days but borrowers may be asked to return items sooner if someone else needs the item.

The Resource Center maintains an online electronic catalog of the materials. Click on the link at the bottom of this section to go to the catalog search page and then bookmark this address as a favorite in your browser.

To start a search, enter your search word and click one of the search icons. We recommend using Keyword searches since they are the fastest, easiest way to find things. Try this sample search: type the words food safety and click on the Keyword icon. A list of items is presented showing the type of material, title, author, year and status.

To select an item click on the title. You will see a description of the item and can make some choices about it. You can save it to a file of possible items you might be interested in by clicking on the Bookbag icon. You can come back to your bookbag later and review the selections. For help with searches or borrowing, email David O'Brien or call at (505) 646-1018.
