The major plant species found in this habitat are Alligator Bark Juniper, Grey Oak, Canyon Live Oak, and Chihuahua Pine.

  • Monarch butterflies are often found in the oak forests, where they rest from their long journeys between wintering grounds in Mexico and their summer breeding grounds.
  • Geometrid larvae, often called "inch-worms" or loopers, are common in the oak fores
  • A jumping spider, in the genus Phidippus, from a large oak tree in a Madrean-Riparian oak forest.
  • Another jumping spider, Habronattus dossenus, from oak leaf-litter in a Madrean-Riparian oak forest.
  • The giant whipscorpion, Mastigoproctus giganteus , is a common inhabitant of rocky areas.

  • The Arizona Alligator Lizard is a fairly common resident of leaflitter and rocks in oak and pinyon-juniper.
