Julie is a graduate of NMSU with a Bachelor of Science in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management and Master of Arts in English. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Professional Communication at NMSU, focusing on Writing Across the Curriculum. She is researching how writing skills transfer from English courses into degree areas and methods to improve writing skills within the hospitality discipline. Julie currently teaches classes in hospitality management, professional development and event management, while serving as the faculty advisor for the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality.
Julie is a certified Servsafe© Instructor/Proctor. She works with the New Mexico Restaurant Association to teach classes across the state and to help bring all foodservice organizations into compliance with new state regulations. She is also working with the college of ACES to help county administrators become certified instructors/proctors in order for them to be able to educate their constituents and bring them into compliance.
Julie is the coordinator for the HRTM annual Hospitality Career fair and works closely with industry recruiters on career placement opportunities for our students.
