Evaluation: Proposal and Challenges
For this lab, select a learning game (from the list below or choose
your own), and propose an evaluation methodology. You should
include in your plan:
- What knowledge are
you measuring? What are the educational objectives?
- How will you assess learning?
(for example, pre and post test, attitude measurement, interview?)
- Who will you
measure the learning of?
- What will be the evaluation environment... in the homes of the
evaluator? self report on a form online?
- How will you be sure the learning occurred from the game
itself?
Remember, you are evaluating the learning, not the popularity of the
game or the interface. Finally, be prepared to discuss in your
response paper (due next week) the
challenges
related to your evaluation plan. What are you not able to measure? How
can your evaluation give inaccurate or invalid results? What is more
important than developing the "ideal" evaluation plan is understanding
the ways in which any evaluation will fall short.
