Establish Educational Objectives for 7th Grade Social Studies
Game
You have just been hired as the Project Manager for a PT3 Grant that
develops educational materials for use in the seventh-grade classroom.
Over the past
year, discussions and workshops with state teachers have identified
social
studies as a key area where teachers could use well-developed
educational
tools. There are a lot of materials available online, but they would
like
you to put something together in a professional, effective manner. Your
task
is to identify possible educational objectives.
- It may be natural to begin brainstorming different types of
games that can help meet the educational objectives. While this is
fine,
don't get lost in the details of the game. At this point, you want to
emphasize what you want your users to learn.
- The game that is eventually developed may not meet all the
educational objectives. You are developing a starting point from which
to
begin game brainstorming.
- It may be helpful to define both specific content-related
goals (students will be able to identify world leaders with their
countries),
and more general, conceptual goals (students will appreciate the power
of
culture to shape politics).
For help, review the NM
Standards for middle school-social studies.
