Albuquerque
Bernalillo County Extension Master Composters Fall 2014 Training
The next Master Composter Training is scheduled for Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings, October 15 to November 8, 2014, at the Bernalillo County Extension Office in Albuquerque. The purpose of the training is to educate people to be expert composters who will then teach others how to compost. It is not necessary to be a resident of Bernalillo County to take the training. Las Cruces
Rodeo "Wild Ride"
NMSU Rodeo will host the 2014 "Wild Ride"at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at the Southern NM Fairgrounds. Admission is free. See rodeo athletes compete in a different style - dressed up in Halloween costumes.

The activities continue Saturday night with the 2014 Frank DuBois Bronc Riding and Tie-Down Roping. Again event starts at 7 p.m. and admission is free. See some of the best bronc riders and tie-down ropers compete against each other in an action-packed, family-friendly event.

Las Cruces
Therapeutic Riding Program Horse Carnival
The event will be held at the NMSU Equine Education Center on the NMSU campus at 750 Stewart St. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring food, music as well as horse riding, face painting and horse painting.

There is no admission cost, but each station will require tickets. Tickets are $1 each or 25 for $20, which includes all activities. Tickets will be available at the horse carnival. More info...

Family Fall Horse Event
Where: Rio Arriba Rural Event Center, State Road 554, House 122A, Abiquiu.
When: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m
What: There will be workshops each hour, including information on:
  • Hay selection, presented by Mark Marsalis, NMSU forage specialist
  • Nutrition, presented by Marcy Ward, NMSU Extension livestock specialist
  • Horse Judging 101, presented by Jason Turner, NMSU Extension equine specialist
  • Reining demonstration, presented by Liz Banks

Top of the River Prospective Beef Emporium
Where: Rio Arriba County Fairgrounds, State Road 554, House 122A, Abiquiu
When: The emporium will begin with calf weigh-in at 8 a.m. Bids for purchasing calves will close at 2 p.m.

The sales are private treaty and are between the cattle producer and the exhibitor. There will be a workshop on beef quality assurance and calf selection during the event, encouraging best herdsmanship practices. More info...

Homecoming Door Decorating Contest
Theme: Road to Discovery

If you are entering the contest let Olga (6-1806) or Pam (6-5848) know by Nov 3 so they can make sure the Judges see your display. Judging will be at 2:00pm on Nov 6. Winners announced Nov 7.

Special Note: Because of fire codes, the decorations are restricted to 5 feet on either side of the door. The Fire Marshall insists the halls be kept clear of obstructions.

Lincoln County
Minerals and Their Role in Ranch Sustainability to be held at SWCRS
SWCRS Beyond the Roundtable - Join us for the 1st Beyond the Roundtable event.

An in-depth discussion delving into the role minerals play in livestock production and supplementation needs in New Mexico.

In contrast to the Rancher's Roundtable, leading experts in mineral nutrition will present three one-hour presentations with a roundtable discussion to close the day.

Lunch will be provided and each participant will take home a bound proceedings with all information from the day, as well as, supplemental information deemed important by speakers and NM specialists.

Registration fee of $10 will be required at the door to defray cost of printed material. Limited to first 50 to register.

Roswell
New Mexico Sustainable Agriculture Conference
This year's NM Sustainable Ag. Conference will be held at the Roswell Civic Center (912 Main St., Roswell, NM 88201) on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014, from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm.

Presentations will be provided by experts covering range and soil management in drought conditions, low-water use crop production, and other key areas for eastern NM. The event is free of charge.
