Below is a list of events sponsored by the College or of interest to our clientele. Events are tracked all over the state; the maps next to each event indicate where the event is taking place. If you would like to filter your results to a particular county, visit the county calendar listing.

Los Lunas
Thursdays are "Bug Nights" at Los Lunas science center
Have you been wondering about that strange looking bug in your garden? Find out what it is, whether it's a friend or foe, and how to control it if necessary during the "Bug Nights" walking tours at New Mexico State University's Agricultural Science Center at Los Lunas, 1036 Miller Road.

Tess Grasswitz, NMSU's urban/small farm integrated pest management specialist, and Newt McCarty, Valencia County Extension agricultural agent, will host four Bug Nights on Thursdays, Aug. 14, Aug. 28, Sept. 11 and Sept. 25. The free classes will start at 6 p.m. and conclude at approximately 7:30 p.m.

There is no charge for attending these events, but pre-registration would be appreciated. To register, call 505-865-7340 at least 24 hours before each class. Remember to wear appropriate clothing, and bring water to drink.

Hobbs
Organic farm walking tour series-Hobbs
New Mexico State University's College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences and the New Mexico Department of Agriculture's Organic Program are presenting a series of four farm tours hosted by organic growers throughout New Mexico who produce a variety of crops.

The third farm tour will be Wednesday, Sept. 3, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Hidden Acres Farm in Hobbs. More info...

Silver City
Small Farm Conference
The Hidalgo, Grant, and Luna County Cooperative Extension Offices are hosting the Small Farm Conference. The day will get started with a tour and meet and greet at the Silver City Farmers Market. Participates will then go on a farm tour before meeting at the Grant County Extension Office (2610 N. Silver St. Silver City)) for presentations covering, small farm economics, marketing, good agriculture practices, food safety, and business planing.

Lunch will be provided and will consist of a winter squash soup, salad, and artisan breads.

There is a $5.00 registration fee to be paid at the door to help cover the cost of lunch.

Project Discovery to feature music, dance and hot chile
Save the date:

Everyone is invited to "Project Discovery: An evening of music, dance and the science behind the world's hottest chile pepper," at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, in the Atkinson Recital Hall.

Come take part in an exciting night of dancing, musical entertainment and a conversation with Paul Bosland, the world's foremost authority on chile peppers and director of NMSU's Chile Pepper Institute.

Also featuring the world's greatest salsa bar and an after-party on the Horseshoe. All proceeds will go toward student scholarships. More info...

Organic farm walking tour series-Abiquiu

Bernalillo County Extension Master Composters Fall 2014 Training
The next Master Composter Training is scheduled for Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings, October 15 to November 8, 2014, at the Bernalillo County Extension Office in Albuquerque. The purpose of the training is to educate people to be expert composters who will then teach others how to compost. It is not necessary to be a resident of Bernalillo County to take the training.
