Family Wellness Classes
The NMSU's Strengthening Families Initiative is initiating Family Wellness Program class series throughout Doña Ana County.

Class series will take place at community settings such as schools, churches, and community centers starting in January 2014. We invite you to create fun family memories while learning practical skills and strengthening your family.

Topics range from:

  • parents as leaders and models,
  • dealing with change,
  • communication,
  • family dynamics,
  • signs of healthy/unhealthy relationships,
  • commitment,
  • conflict resolution and much more.

All classes are provided with a light meal, a children's program, and are available in English or Spanish, for more information and to sign up call (575) 646-4360.

Hidalgo County Gardening Series #2
This workshop will cover topics related to composting, cover crops and companion planting.

Participants will learn how to build their worm compost bin. Hand on activities at the garden will include installing a drip tape system around the fruit trees and planting Sorghum-Sudan, buckwheat and cow-pea in the cover crop study being conducted.

All classes take place at the Ena Mitchel Building. 317 E. 4th st. Lordsburg, NM and should run from 9am to noon. More info...

Kitchen Creations Cooking School
NMSU Cooperative Extension Service is offering a cooking school for people with diabetes. The classes are sponsored by the NM Department of Health and Presbyterian Healthcare Services. Insurance with Presbyterian is not required to attend. This particular cooking school is targeted to African Americans.
Kitchen Creations is a free series of four classes that help people with diabetes learn how to prepare delicious meals and manage their blood sugar levels.
Kitchen Creations is free of charge to participants. Seating is limited, and priority goes to people who have diabetes. Participants must pre-register by calling the Extension Office at 575-763-6505 by April 7th and plan to attend all four sessions.

Time: 9:00 AM - Noon
Location: Curry County Extension Office, 818 Main St.

Special Field Day at NMSU's Clovis Science Center explores winter canola as alternative crop
New Mexico State University's Agricultural Science Center at Clovis is hosting a free field day to address the potential of winter canola as an alternative crop

Registration for the event starts at 9 a.m. and the field tour will start at 10 a.m. A lunch program will be at 11:30 a.m.

HRTM International Dinner - French Cuisine
NMSU's school of HRTM will present a "French Cuisine" dinner on Thursday, April 24th as a part of their International Dinner Series.

Dinners being at 6:30 pm and will take place in 100 West Café, west end of Gerald Thomas Hall. Wine tasting will be included with each dinner from 6-6:30 pm.

Cost of dinner will be $62.50 per person.

Please come in person to Gerald Thomas Hall Rm. 138 Friday, Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 2 pm to purchase your ticket(s).

Payment must be made the day dinner tickets are purchased. There are no refunds and cancellations must be made no later than the Monday the week of the dinner event.

Hidalgo County Youth Demonstration Garden Field Day and PNM dedication.
This event will highlight the work the Hidalgo County Cooperative Extension Office, the Spirit of Hidalgo, the Hidalgo County Food Coalition, and Hidalgo Medical Services has been doing at the Fairgrounds.

The garden has been highlighted in news papers and on the El Paso news station. The day will consist of presentations done by Extension Specialist, NRSC is going to have their water trailer available, and the Hidalgo County Extension Office will be talking about cover crops and soil health.

The event will start at 9am. The garden received a $10000 grant from PNM and we will be having a thank you reception at 11am followed by a BBQ lunch. More info...

Bernalillo County Extension Master Composters Fall 2014 Training
The next Master Composter Training is scheduled for Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings, October 15 to November 8, 2014, at the Bernalillo County Extension Office in Albuquerque. The purpose of the training is to educate people to be expert composters who will then teach others how to compost. It is not necessary to be a resident of Bernalillo County to take the training.
