NMSU, Sandoval Master Gardeners to host eight-week gardening series
Sandoval County Master Gardeners, in conjunction with New Mexico State University's Sandoval County Cooperative Extension Service, is hosting an eight-week series on the many aspects of gardening in the Southwest.

The Southwest Homeowners Series will begin Feb. 5 and offer a class each Thursday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. through March 26. The classes will be at the Sandoval County Extension office in the Old Courthouse in Bernalillo, 711 S. Camino del Pueblo.

Attend individual classes or the entire series. Cost of the series is $40 or $5 for each individual class.

The schedule of classes includes:

    • March 5: "Seed Starting," presented by Lynda Garvin.
    • March 12: "Vegetable Gardening," presented by Loren Meinz, Master Gardener
    • March 19: "Insect Pest Management," presented by Tess Grasswitz, NMSU Integrated Pest Management specialist.
    • March 26: "Preserving the Fruits of Your Labor: Food Preservation Basics," by Nicole Lujan, NMSU Sandoval home economist and 4-H agent.

Orchard Renovation Workshop
New Mexico State University's Rio Arriba County Cooperative Extension Service is hosting a free workshop Tuesday, March 17, on how to renovate an old orchard to help fruit growers return their trees to production

The free workshop will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at Jack Trujillo Farm, off State Highway 554 in Abiquiu. Signs will be posted to direct participants to the farm. More info...

  • 9:00 am to 12:00 pm - Home Composting Basics and Soil Amending.
  • 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm - Composting With Worms (Vermicomposting).
  • 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm - Bucket Composting With the Bokashi Method.

The workshop will be help at Sandoval County Extension Service Classroom, 811 S. Camino del Pueblo, Old County Courthouse, Bernalillo, NM.

Grant Writing Workshop - New Mexico Farmers Market and Local Food Promotion Program
This Workshop focuses on effective grant writing strategies for USDA Agricultural Marketing Serve (AMS) programs such as Farmers' Market Promotional Programs and the Local Food Promotional programs.
NMSU's Community Resources & Economic Development Specialist, Michael Patrick, will conduct the workshop.
