The fourth annual Rio Chama Equine Expo will be held Aug. 26, 8:30 a.m., Rio Arriba Rural Event Center, Abiquiu.

The day's events will begin at 8:30 a.m. with registration and a welcome from the Rio Arriba County Rodeo Royalty. The morning will be filled with sessions including proper bit selection, pack-horse packing, horse health care, basic horsemanship and camping with horses.

After lunch, provided by the Rio Arriba County Farm and Livestock Bureau, there will be an All Age Hippology contest, horse judging for all ages, and a tractor driving safety class. Join us for this free and educational event! More info...

62nd NM WRRI Annual New Mexico Water Conference
The 62nd NM WRRI Annual New Mexico Water Conference will be held Aug. 15 - 16, NM Tech Macey Center, Socorro.

The theme is Hidden Realities of New Water Opportunities. A highlight of each year's annual water conference is a poster session where participants can learn about current water research taking place around the state and region. The poster session will be on Aug. 16 and offers a wonderful opportunity for networking with state and regional water experts. We anticipate about 200 attendees at this year's conference.

The Call for Poster Abstracts seeks abstracts for posters on any water research or management topic. We encourage interested students, researchers, and practitioners to submit poster abstracts via the online submission process. Abstracts for consideration for posters will be accepted through July 26. Notification of poster acceptance will be announced by July 31. More info...

Beginner's Walking Group
The Quay County Extension, along with the Fitness & Nutrition Committee of the Quay County Health Council, invite you to join a Beginner's Walking Group.

This group will start waking July 24 and try to continue through September. We will meet at the Tucumcari Fitness Complex, by the High School Auditorium, each Monday at 8:30 a.m. We will do a few stretches and walk at our own pace around the paths. The weather should be cool enough to walk safely this early in the morning. Wear good shoes and bring a bottle of water. You may start at any time! No charge! No Registration! Just show up!

After all we all need some motivation to accomplish this so what better way than to be part of a group or having a buddy that is counting on you to be there. So help and join me, Brenda Bishop, Quay County FCS Agent, to stay motivated as I start a walking group for beginners. More info...

Quay County FCS Agent, Brenda Bishop, will be teaching a Food Handler Certification Training on Sept. 6, 5:30 p.m., Quay County Extension Office.

If you are volunteering where food is being served to the public, whether paid for or not, it makes sense that those preparing the food have food safety training. A case of food borne illness would not be good for your organization and having trained people may reduce your liability.

International Dinner Series - Bavarian Cuisine
The HRTM International Dinner Series is one of the most gourmet dining experiences you can have in Las Cruces. 

Held on Thursday nights, your evening starts at 6 p.m. with a wine tasting and an hors d’oeuvre reception in our Bobby Lee Lawrence Academy of Wine. Then dinner starts in 100 West Café at 6:30 p.m. All are five course meals with specially paired wines. The dinners cost $62.50 per person.

We have developed a plan to make the purchase of dinner tickets as easy and equitable as possible. Please come in person to Gerald Thomas Hall, Rm. 138, starting on Aug. 31 at 8:30 am to purchase your ticket(s). Payment must be made the day dinner tickets are purchased – there are no refunds.

The FDA, FSMA-HARPC (Hazard Analysis and Risk-based Preventative Control) Training & Certification is being offered in Spanish , Oct. 23 - 25, NMSU, Gerald Thomas Hall, Rm. 303, 940 College Drive, Las Cruces, NM. Class will be in Spanish. Rescheduled from Aug. 28 - 30.

This course, developed by the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA), is the "standardized curriculum" recognized by FDA. Successfully completing this course approved by FDA meets the requirement of a "Preventive Controls Qualified Individual" (PCQI). It will provide participants with the knowledge needed to create a Food Safety plan that complies with the Hazard Analysis and Risk-based Preventive Control (HARPC) for Human Food rule.

The fourth annual Rio Chama Equine Expo will be held Aug. 26, 8:30 a.m., Rio Arriba Rural Event Center, Abiquiu.

Food Safety Preventative Controls Alliance Course (Spanish)
The FDA, FSMA-HARPC (Hazard Analysis and Risk-based Preventative Control) Training & Certification is being offered in Spanish , Oct. 23 - 25, NMSU, Gerald Thomas Hall, Rm. 303, 940 College Drive, Las Cruces, NM. Class will be in Spanish. Rescheduled from Aug. 28 - 30.

This course, developed by the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA), is the "standardized curriculum" recognized by FDA. Successfully completing this course approved by FDA meets the requirement of a "Preventive Controls Qualified Individual" (PCQI). It will provide participants with the knowledge needed to create a Food Safety plan that complies with the Hazard Analysis and Risk-based Preventive Control (HARPC) for Human Food rule.
