The event will be located in Railroad Depot area from 4:00 - 9:00 p.m. It includes: Prince Tocum and Princess Kari contest, car and motorcycle show, kid's corner, wild west and Civil War Re-enactments, blacksmithing competition, Japanese drummers, live country music, Mariachi's, various vendors, live fire performance and fireworks.

For October's Science Day we will join hundreds of thousands of youth across the world in 4-H National Youth Science Day experiment. This year's experiment called, "Motion Commotion", will combine a speeding car collision and a distracted driving demonstration in a simulated activity that investigates the physical and human factors of motion.

Quay County 5K Fun Run/Walk will be starting at Kvols Park in Tucumcari. The Plant Sciences Graduate Student Organization will hold a fall plant sale from 8 - 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, in the lobby of Gerald Thomas Hall.

They are selling four packs of 'Gonzales' and 'Cairo' Cabbage, 'Graffiti' and 'Candid Charm' cauliflower, 'PackMan' broccoli, 'Dwarf Siberian', 'Red Russian,' and 'Lacinato' Kale, 'Bright Lights' Swiss Chard, and 'Joi Choi' bak (pac) choi Chinese cabbage.

The cost is $2 per four pack of plants. The profits from these sales will go toward helping fund graduate student travel to professional meetings.

Los Alamos Team 4-H is...
  • Fun:
    4-H offers hundreds of projects including, gardening, horses, interior design, sewing, arts and crafts, cooking, raising a seeing-eye puppy, sheep, rabbits, goats, fashion design, food preservation, dairy, beef, and many, many more!
  • Education:
    4-H has a long history of helping youth "learn by doing". 4H focuses on teaching new topics and developing life skills that include public speaking and record keeping.
  • Community Service:
    4-H'ers do projects that help Los Alamos and are:
    • Four times more likely to make contributions to their communities (Grades 7-12)
    • Two times more likely to be civically active (Grades 8-12)
  • Parents and Volunteers:
    Parents and volunteers are crucial to 4H clubs. Capable, interested adult volunteers are always needed to lead clubs. Training and support are provided so no previous experience is necessary.

Bring your family to the 10th Annual Fall Farm Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Los Lunas Agriculture Science Center, 1036 Miller Street, Los Lunas. The Valencia County Cooperative Extension Service is hosting this event as a fundraiser for the Valencia County 4-H Program.

Admission is $5.00 for everyone 4 years old and older. Kids 3 years old and under are free. Price includes face painting, petting zoo, corn maze, and wagon ride, a pumpkin to pick and take home, and many other fun games and educational booths.

This 2-day certification course will be presented in English at New Mexico State University, Gerald Thomas Hall, in Las Cruces, NM on November 13-14, 2015.

This school certifies supervisors of thermal processing systems, acidification and container closure evaluation programs for low-acid or acidified canned foods. This school also satisfies the training requirements specified in both the FDA and USDA regulation for ACIDIFIED FOODS ONLY. Nothing says the holidays like tamales! Join us November 13 from 9 - 12 p.m. for a hands-on class where you will learn all about this New Mexico tradition. Class will be held at the Peralta Methodist Church, 25 Wesley Dr., Peralta. Participants will not only make tamales, you'll also enjoy a tamale lunch and will take home a dozen tamales.
