Bull Session & Performance Reports: 2011-12

112-Day Report

The 51st Tucumcari Bull Test concluded as one of the most successful in recent memory. For a second year in a row, the bulls across the barn continued to meet the performance expectations (112-Day ADG = 3.96 lbs.) of our high roughage based diet backed with Cargill's NutreBeef Limiter feed product. It is evident in visually appraising the bulls and also evaluating the weight and condition measurements that a majority of the bulls across the barn had not plateaued by the end of the test. This simply means the bulls are not over-conditioned and aligns with our philosophy to 'grow them, but not ruin them' while on test.

84-Day Report

While the Eastern Plains of New Mexico could always use the moisture, the drier and warmer temperatures for a majority of January set up ideal feeding conditions for the bulls on test in Tucumcari. Performance continued to improve to 3.90 pounds per day across all breeds at the 84-Day weigh session. If you haven't had a chance to stop by and view the bulls yet, we encourage you to take time in February as the test winds down. Bulls will be weighed off the test on February 27th and 28th. Sale videos with all pedigree, EPDs, ultrasound and performance data will be mailed by request.

56-Day Report

It is a pleasure to provide you the 56-Day Report from the 51st Annual Tucumcari Bull Test. This year's test has brought together 54 bulls from ten New Mexico seedstock operations. While the number of bulls in this year's program is down the performance of the bulls through 56 days on test is higher than the bulls enrolled in the 2011 Test. Through 56-Day, the bulls in this year's test are averaging 3.81 pounds of gain per day.
