New Mexico Equine Industry Summit

Overview of the 2011 New Mexico Equine Industry Summit held in Clovis on March 26, 2011

The Summit was co-sponsored by the New Mexico Horse Council and the New Mexico State University Cooperative Extension Service. The primary purpose of the Summit was to provide a forum where representatives from the various equine breed associations, discipline groups, saddle clubs, etc. could meet to discuss the current state of the equine industry in New Mexico and begin to formulate plans for guiding the future of the industry. The day included several seminars on issues concerning the equine industry. These presentations were followed by question and answer sessions as well as a few small group exercises where participants were presented with a situation and worked together to come up with some conclusions on that topic. Since funding resources for the Summit were limited, participation was limited to an invitation only basis. Therefore, the speaker presentations and results of the Summit exercises are made available on this website for those that were not able to attend. Future plans for the Summit include making this event available to a wider audience. If you would like to be included in an email list regarding the future Equine Industry Summit, please send an email with your name, name of your group/association, mailing address, email address, website (if applicable), and telephone number to Dr. Jason Turner at jlturner@nmsu.edu.

Alliance Questionnaire Results

A copy of the "Alliance Questionnaire" is provided below for your reference. There were only a few responses provided on the forms handed out at the Summit, and it is hard to draw any formal conclusions from those responses. This suggests that a future meeting to target developing alliances among various groups may be a priority for the industry.

NM Equine Industry Summit Participant Survey

There were 48 completed surveys returned from the 70 total participants registered at the Summit. The summary of the results are provided in the link below.
