Paul Ettestad, DVM, MS
Dr. Paul Ettestad has been with the New Mexico Department of Health since 1994 after serving for two years with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer assigned to the Division of Vector Borne Infectious Diseases. He received his DVM from University of Illinois and a MS in Wildlife Ecology from Texas A&M University. Dr. Ettestad has been the New Mexico State Public Health Veterinarian since 1997, developing surveillance systems for monitoring zoonotic diseases, and leading numerous investigations of both human and animal cases of plague, tularemia, hantavirus and other zoonotic diseases. He has been an active participant in organizing and executing both health and agriculture emergency response exercises. Previously, Dr. Ettestad was a Veterinary Medical Officer for the USDA - Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service where he completed training as a Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostician.
