"New Beginnings" Garden

Meeting Location: La Buena Vida, Inc in Bernalillo (south of the Extension Office) 872 Camino Del Pueblo in Bernalillo (Just North of True Value Hardware on east side)
Number of Volunteers Needed: 1-3 depending on time of year. Demonstrations and Talks are presented throughout the year.
Typical Meeting Time/Duration: Thursdays or Friday mornings for 1- 2 hours late Spring through late Fall.
Brief Project Description: La Buena Vida (LBV) Inc is a family mental health facility serving Bernalillo and Sandoval County since the 1970s. The garden project is part of the Psycho Social Rehabilitation (PSR) program which provides its adult clients with life training skills and support in a group setting. The LBV garden started in 2011 as a container gardening class. It has now grown to a large outdoor raised bed vegetable garden, some cold frame flats, compost piles, and potted flowers. The garden has been a motivational focal point and source of beauty for both the staff and the clients.
Main Education/Training Tasks:
Assist clients with planning, seed starting, planting and maintaining gardens
Act as a resource for gardening questions and how to prepare the produce for eating
Provide technical advice as needed
Present or schedule talks/ demonstration on a variety of gardening topics and nutrition
Restrictions: Must enjoy working with adults with minor disabilities. Volunteers may have to sign a client confidentiality form.
