Tree Steward Training

Tree Stewards

Participants in the program will receive tools and training by professional and certified arborists in arboriculture, and will be asked to volunteer to help the city plant and take care of trees in public parks. Participants that successfully complete the training will be certified as an official City of Rancho Tree Steward.

This is an opportunity for residents to learn from experts and then apply that knowledge to assist the city to care for the valuable trees in our parks, said Jay Hart, director of the city's Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department.

Sixteen new tree stewards attended our fall workshop on October 20 at UNM-West and received hands-on training in the afternoon at King Park. Trainees included community volunteers, master gardeners and two student interns working with our city parks and recreation department.

We now have 53 volunteer tree stewards serving our community including 14 SCMG members participating in this Rio Rancho program!
