Science Pirates: the Curse of Captain Brownbeard

Beginning Fall, 2007, middle school youth with have an exciting new way to learn nationally standardized science content. In this musical, pirate adventure, gamers design experiments, isolate variables and form hypotheses while attempting to break the "Curse of Captain Brownbeard". Funded by the USDA, the project reveals the science behind food safety recommendations while presenting science vocabulary and effectively teaching content found on standards-based exams.

Learn the basics of transpiration -- the transportation of water through plants from soil to leaves to atmosphere -- with this playful animation created by weed physiologist Tracy Sterling and animator Matt Byrnes.
