CAHE Technology Help Desk

Several resources in the college support the use of technology in any learning environment. The CAHE Technology Help Desk is an excellent place to begin with technology related questions or for assistance in integrating technology.

The CAHE Technology Help Desk, located in Gerald Thomas Hall Room 270, is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for college faculty and staff to explore and receive assistance with technology for classroom or distance teaching.

Online Software Workshops & Tutorials


  • Extension Podcast Plunge

    Learn to post podcasts to iTunes U; learn specifics in promoting and advertising your materials; and learn tips on branding your materials and giving them a more polished finish. Learn more about podcasting and how it can be a great tool to reach new audiences with the latest content.

  • Tutorials

    Most of these tutorials can be done with any version of Photoshop, though some of the commands may differ slightly. The first two are for Photoshop Elements and cover the beginning basics.

    Plan to spend a half-hour to an hour for each tutorial. They have a lot of images (including large photos you can download to work on), so they may be slow to load if you have a slow connection.

  • Web and Video Conferencing


    CENTRA

    The Extension Internet Conferencing Center delivers online synchronous and asynchronous events including staff development and technology trainings, certification and training modules, department meetings, and distance education classes.

    Events are conducted through CENTRA web conferencing software and include live, two-way audio and visuals with participants, text chat, and application sharing. Registered users unable to participate in the live session can view the archive of recorded events. Guest playback links to archives are available for those unable to participate in the original session.

    Digital Recoring Studio

    The Digital Recording Studio is available for faculty and staff to record and edit digital files in order to be able to post them as Podcasts on iTunesU or on WebCT. Sound Studio, Garage Band, ProfCast, and iMovie are a few of the programs available to use for digitizing files. Tipsheets are available with directions on how to use each program and are located on eSource.

    Satellite Conferencing/Downlinking

    Satellite conferences on C or ku band can be downlinked, copied to VHS tape, fed to certain classrooms and conference rooms in Gerald Thomas Hall or delivered to faculty and staff via Webcast. Charges are usually nominal, but vary with demands of customers.

    Video Conferencing

    Video conferencing allows you to communicate with locations around the world with full video, high-quality audio and the ability to display content from a computer. For more information, view this handout (PDF).

    The College of Agriculture & Home Economics has six videoconferencing units across the state. The Bernalillo County Extension office and all district director's offices (Clovis, Santa Fe, Lordsburg) are equipped with Polycom units. In addition, two units are located in Gerald Thomas Hall; a permanent unit in GT297 and a mobile unit, available for use in GTH rooms with an internet connection. Special software on the GTH units allows multi-point conferences with a maximum of four sites.

    Webcasting

    Webcasting enables participants at any remote location to watch live events over the Internet through streaming audio and video. After the event, the video is often archived so viewers can watch the movie later.

    Forms and Downloads


    Find electronic versions of the college's most often used forms. These printable forms are available as PDF files (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader). These files have the benefit of printing out to look almost exactly like the original publication.

    Find the current versions of stand-alone virus protection utilities, technical support sites, other downloadable software supported by the Help Desk.
