From the Business Process Team

  • Business Process Improvement Team selected and charged

In response to faculty and staff concerns about efficient business practices, Dean Catlett appointed four people and asked them to initially focus on concerns regarding the amount of time it takes to establish account index numbers that give faculty access to new grant dollars. The team members are: Donna Ebler, audit budget technician in Entomology, Plant Pathology and Weed Science; Wendy Hamilton, head of Extension Program Development and Accountability; Bruce Hinrichs, head of the Extension Eastern District; and Mary O'Connell, professor of Plant and Environmental Science. Dean Catlett asked the team to map processes and deliver recommendations this semester to make the college's account index number generation the fastest among colleges on campus. Other business process issues will be addressed subsequently.

  • Business Process Review Team update

The team members have met three times and have received much input from faculty and staff members. In addition, the team members have met with individuals inside and outside their own departments. The team will meet with personnel from the university-level business offices and the college Office of Business and Resource Planning.

The team extensively reviewed recorded feedback from the CAHE listening sessions and identified nine subjects related to business processes. They prioritized them and decided that they would like to address five of them before their charge is completed this spring. The five were: 1) Index number issues (establishing, eliminating, tracking, etc.); 2) procurement card issues; 3) regular faculty and staff hiring; 4) temporary employee issues; and 5) reimbursements.

The team reported that it was progressing smoothly with no obstacles being encountered and expected to report back recommendations related to all these issues this semester. Team members are Donna Ebler, Wendy Hamilton, Bruce Hinrichs and Mary O'Connell.
