NMSU Rodeo Team
The Rodeo Team has had multiple team wins this season as well as 13 individual event wins. At the first home rodeo at the Southern New Mexico State Fair, Tyler Muth, a junior, won the steer wrestling competition. Karly Deforrest, a senior, won not only the goat tying, but the all-around title as well. Jace Cooley, a senior, won the saddle bronc riding and Derek Runyan, a sophmore, won the tie-down roping. The women’s team was third and men’s team first. The men’s team is regionally ranked in 2nd place and the women’s team in 3rd place with one fall rodeo to go.
The NMSU Rodeo Team gave a strong showing at Central Arizona College Rodeo March 11 and 12. The Women’s team shot to the top in the region and they are currently number 1 in the nation. The NMSU Rodeo team home performance is coming up at the Southern New Mexico Fairgrounds April 28 – 30 at 1 p.m. each day!
New Mexico State Universities Men’s and Women’s Rodeo Teams both won second place last weekend at the University of Arizona in Tucson. The points won by both teams are keeping NMSU Rodeo’s dream alive of qualifying for the College National Finals Rodeo. Event champions were Colter Sellers in the tie-down roping, Lucas MacKenzie in the team roping, Justin Rockhill in the steer wrestling and Anna Barker in the Barrel Racing.
NMSU's Rodeo Team again received high marks this Saturday during the rodeo contests on the NMSU Campus. NMSU Men's Team came in First and the NMSU Women's Team came in Second. Nicole Sweazea came in first for the Women's AA. Way to go Aggies!
Mesalands Community College Rodeo: The Rodeo teams attend the Mesalands Community College Rodeo last week. The Men's Team placed first and the Women's Team placed second. Students placed high in the following categories: Bareback, Breakaway, Tie-Down, Saddle Broncs, Steer Wrestling, Goat Tying, Barrel Racing, and Team Roping. We are proud of our University Rodeo Team members! Way to go rodeo Aggies!
NMSU Rodeo Team traveled to Central Arizona College to participate in rodeo events. NMSU Men's team took 1st place, Women's team took 2nd place and Sheldon Church came in 1st in Mens AA; The rodeo event at the University of Arizona NMSU men's team came in 1st and women's team came in 3rd. Josh Davidson came in 1st all in Men's AA.
The men's rodeo team came in 1st place in the nation and the women's team came in 3rd. The rodeo team has brought a positive recognition to NMSU and we are proud they are Aggies!
The first rodeo of the semester took place in Tsaile, Arizona. The NMSU Men's Team took first place in the overall rodeo competition. Lucas McKenzie first place for Men's AA and 2nd place for Tie-Down and Team Roping. Ty Anderson took 3rd place for Tie-Down. Josh Davison took 1st for Bull Riding. Tyke Kipp took 1st for Steer Wrestling. Courtney Campbell came in first for Barrel Racing.

The Men's Rodeo Team continued their dominance of the region with another championship win at the Navajo Technical University NIRA Rodeo at Window Rock, AZ. They wrap the season up with the final 2 rodeos here on Campus on April 25-27. The NMSU Rodeo will be held in the Aggie Tailgate lot near Aggie Memorial Stadium. NMSU Students get in FREE w/ID and regular admission is $5.00. Performances begin at 5:00 pm on Friday, April 25, 5pm on April 26, and a top 10 short-go at 1:00pm on April 27.

Breakaway: Brandi Pfeifer tied for 1st place and Jenna Suazo came in 4th.
Barrels: Meghan Johnson 2nd place and Nalynn Cline 4th place.
Goat Tying: Brandi Pfeifer 2nd and Shelby Montano 6th place.
Tie-Down: Pacen Marez 1st place and Russell Van Boelen 2nd place.
Team Roping: Brennon Seely and Sheldon Church tied for 3rd place and Omar Ramirez 8th place.

Jim Brown, Rodeo Coach reported Fall 2013 NMSU Rodeo team cumulative GPA is a stellar 3.2! The following team members also received a grade of all "A" this semester: Elliot Romo, Kendra Stieneman, Olivia Train, Pacen Marez and Chantel I. Rice.
New Mexico State University's Rodeo. The National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association results this week show NMSU Men's Rodeo Team as number 1! The Grand Canyon Region Standings also rated the NMSU Men's Rodeo Team number 1.
NMSU Rodeo hosted the 2014 "Wild Ride" on Friday at the Southern NM Fairgrounds. Rodeo athletes competed in a different style - dressed up in Halloween costumes. The activities continued on Saturday night with the 2014 Frank DuBois Bronc Riding & Tie-Down Roping. Some of the best bronc riders and tie-down ropers competed against each other in an action packed, family friendly event.
