Workshop for Apple Growers Planned

LAS CRUCES -- A day-long workshop for apple growers will be offered April 18 in Alamogordo at the Otero County Extension office at the County Fairgrounds.
The workshop will focus on ways to benefit and improve orchard management practices throughout the year.
Esteban Herrera, horticulture specialist with New Mexico State University's Cooperative Extension Service, will address chemical thinning of apple orchards.
Leon New, agricultural Extension engineer from Texas A&M University in Amarillo, Texas, will discuss the planning and designing of microsprinklers and microsprayers. He also will talk about fertigation, which is fertilization through irrigation.
A field trip to High Rolls for a tour of apple orchards is scheduled for the afternoon.
