State FFA Convention Scheduled for June 2-5

LAS CRUCES -- FFA students from across the state will converge on Las Cruces June 2-5 for their annual convention.
The students will be competing for top honors in public speaking and quiz contests, and FFA creed presentations.
The convention, which will be held in the Corbett Center Ballrooms at New Mexico State University, will include keynote speeches from National FFA Vice President Ray Starling of Autryville, N.C., and past National FFA Vice president Andy McCall of Houston. Maestro Peter Ole, national convention organist, will entertain convention attendees throughout the week. On Thursday morning, FFA members will be mesmerized by the hypnotic powers of Dr. Jim Wand.
Several awards will be presented during the convention.
Fifteen adults will be inducted as honorary members of the New Mexico State FFA Association. Jim Libbin, professor of agricultural economics and agricultural business at NMSU's College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences , will be honored for distinguished service.
Several students will receive State FFA Degrees and State Proficiency Awards. Candidates for the American FFA Degree will also be recognized.
The New Mexico State FFA officers conducting the convention include Eva Madrid of Hatch, president; Joe Warren of Los Lunas, vice president; Debbie Bond of Carrizozo, secretary; Janae Deason of Clayton, treasurer; Misty Carter of Melrose, reporter; Jason Ballard of Carlsbad, sentinel.
New state officers will be elected during the convention.
