LAS CRUCES -- Don Lindsey has been named interim associate dean and director of academic programs for New Mexico State University's College of Agriculture and Home Economics.
Lindsey moves from his position as a professor of entomology, plant pathology and weed science in the college. He replaces I. Miley Gonzalez, who was sworn in by Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman as undersecretary of agriculture for research, education and economics on Tuesday.
"My predecessors in this position did a great job. I want to continue their student-friendly policy, keeping the students as the top priority," Lindsey said. "I am excited about this position and about being able to work with students."
A 29-year veteran of NMSU, Lindsey's research has included work with virtually all of New Mexico's soil-inhabiting disease organisms. He is known by his students as not only a knowledgeable professor, but also an interested and caring friend. In 1990, Lindsey received the college's Distinguished Teaching Award.
Prior to joining NMSU, he was a professor at Colorado State University, North Carolina State University and Northern Colorado State University.
