LAS CRUCES -- New Mexico State University students with dairy backgrounds or an interest in the dairy industry are eligible for three new tuition scholarships.
The scholarships, established by the New Mexico Dairy Processors Association and the Mesilla Valley Dairy Herd Improvement Association, are for varying amounts. They will be given to incoming or current NMSU students pursuing degrees in the College of Agriculture and Home Economics, said Mary Liesner, assistant to the college's academic programs director.
Candidates must be residents of New Mexico or El Paso County, Texas. A minimum grade point average of 2.5 is required. Preference will be given to students who have been involved with dairy projects in 4-H, FFA or high school or who have immediate family members involved in the dairy industry.
"We are grateful to the dairy industry for providing this financial assistance to students in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences ," Liesner said.
Special application forms for these scholarships will be available after Feb. 1 in the college's academic programs office in room 246 of Gerald Thomas Hall. The deadline to apply for these and other scholarships for the 1998-99 academic year is March 1. For more information, call 1-800-400-1807.
