Dr. Bernd Leinauer's Research Program
Turfgrass research efforts at NMSU are focused on water conservation. Major focus is given to the use of tailored water distributed by a subsurface drip irrigation system. The major focus is to find if grasses can grown with water rich in nitrogen, and simultaneously to avoid leaching on Nitrogen into groundwater.
Other research focuses finding which grasses and varieties performs the best under drought conditions.
Several other experiments investigate the use of fertilizers, soil surfactant, and plant growth regulator (PGR) on turfgrasses.
