Project: Nuestra Tierra was a two-year project involving several schools in the Las Cruces area, and NMSU's College of Education and College of Agriculture and Home Economics. It took place from Fall 1995 to Fall 1997.
Designed to develop the skills of teachers in implementing technology in their curriculum, Nuestra Tierra focused on history, geography, and science in multimedia applications.
In the first year, teachers from three schools attended training workshops once a month on implementing technology in their curriculum. In addition to the workshops, they met weekly with an NMSU educational technology graduate student and the other teachers from their school involved with the project. Workshops addressed technology integration issues and ideas, as well as provided hands on training in the world wide web and multimedia, such as Hyperstudio.
The project recently completed its second year. Four new schools were
added, and each of the 'old' teachers advised a partner at one of the new
schools. In addition to training the 'new' teachers, the teachers originally
involved in the project also provided school and district-wide workshops
on technology integration. Many of the 'Nuestra Tierra' teachers now serve
as Regional Educational Technology
Assistance (RETA) teachers throughout the state.
