Prior to joining the New Mexico State University, Dr. Gouvea spent three years working for a major global animal nutrition and health industry, providing technical leadership for feedyards in many countries in Latin America. He was also responsible for strategic developing products and technologies for feedlot cattle through innovation projects combining basic and applied-research. His career still includes work as visiting scholar in the Department of Animal Science at The Ohio State University (OSU) and as Research Associate in the Range Cattle Research and Education Center at University of Florida (RCREC - UF). Dr. Gouvea is a member of the American Society of Animal Science.
Focus on beef cattle production and health. Complimentary areas of interest include feedlot nutrition, nutritional physiology and relationships between nutrition and animal health/immunology. Research activities include feeding programs for newly received and finishing cattle, ingredient evaluation, optimizing nutrient utilization and metabolism, shipping protocols and vaccination strategies to improve animal health and immunity.
