Common name: Platte Range Grasshopper.

Size: 22-40 mm.

General distribution: Montana and the Dakotas, S. into New Mexico.

Distribution in New Mexico: Statewide.

Habitat: Grassland.

Host: Shrubs, Atriplex (salt bush).

Adults Present: June-October.

Notes: Band-wing with red or yellow basal area on hind wing and spur on hind wing band; black streak through lower part of eyes and black mark on lateral pronotum; two distinct half-bands on tegmina; inner hind femora black with white ring distally; hind tibiae blue. Not economically important.
