Common name: American Grasshopper.

Size: 39-55 mm.

General distribution: Ontario, Canada, W. to the Great Plains and S. to Argentina.

Distribution in New Mexico: Only state record.

Habitat: Grassland.

Host: Forbs, crops.

Adults Present: May-November.

Notes: Very large, mottled brown bird grasshopper with red hind tibiae. Can be destructive.
