Southwest Agroforestry Action Network (SWAAN)

Welcome to the Southwest Agroforestry Action Network (SWAAN). The SWAAN members are in the process of forming a chartered organization for agroforestry in the southwest, U.S.A. Here, you'll find meeting information pertinent to the action network members. Once the organization is formalized, a new website will be built to accommodate the mission, vision, action plans, and related research. Any professional interested in contributing to SWAAN may contact Mr. Andy Mason

SWAAN Purpose and Scope

"Share information, connect potential collaborators/partners, and generate ideas/research/initiatives that could advance adoption of agroforestry in the Southwest U.S. by agricultural producers, forest landowners, and communities. The scope of forest-agricultural activities includes those used by:
  1) agricultural producers, often installed with USDA technical and/or financial assistance
      (alley cropping, forest farming/multi-story cropping, riparian forest buffers, silvopasture, and windbreaks/shelterbelts);
  2) indigenous peoples;
  3) settlers on Spanish and Mexican Land Grants; as well as
  4) permaculture; and
  5) 'food forests' in community/urban areas.
The geographic scope includes all landownerships in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah (Tribal, State, Federal, County, Municipal, and Private)." - Andy Mason, SWAAN Chair
