Speaker Focus

Increasing sustainability and reducing the environmental impact of the industry is a task that the Engineering New Mexico Resource Network (ENMRN) at NMSU has been achieving for several years. The ENMRN has operated from northern New Mexico to west Texas and northern Mexico providing services that support the implementation of Pollution Prevention (P2) and Economy, Energy, and Environment (E3) Best Practices.

Several U.S. business sectors such as healthcare, hospitality, and manufacturing, have employed the services offered by the P2 and E3 programs and have benefited from the assessments made by the staff at ENMRN which include methods of reducing energy consumption and minimizing water use and waste. This outreach service not only increases the efficiency of the local industry but also educates businesses on the impact they have on the environment.

On-site assessments are conducted by a team of staff alongside graduate and undergraduate students from NMSU. Students collect data, calculate energy savings, suggest more energy-efficient equipment and prepare the final reports that staff members present to clients providing students with hands-on experience and increasing their awareness of the importance of sustainability.
