Global Game Jam

NMSU's Learning Games Lab and the Digital Graphics Program at the NMSU Doña Ana Community College invited programmers, writers, artists, musicians, project managers, and web/graphic developers to join the Global Game Jam.

What Was the Global Game Jam?

The Global Game Jam was a 48 hour marathon for professionals to create a game. We started Friday with a given theme, and posted the game on Sunday. Each game made and approved is available on the website archive. These games are free for the world to play.

When Was the Global Game Jam?

The GGJ was held at the NMSU (main campus) Learning Games Lab in Gerald Thomas Hall, corner of College and Knox (map) Friday January 29 4pm-Sunday January 31 3pm.

What Did We Create?

On Friday the theme was released, this years theme was deception. We brainstormed ideas around the theme, and formed teams. The goal of the event was for each team to create a game that is playable in 5-10 minutes. The game could be created in anything Flash, Shockwave, Java, GameMaker Pro, Unreal, C, etc. They could also develop for any kind of environment: Mac, PC, iPhone, xBox, etc. If they weren't able to complete a game, they were able to create a PDF game portfolio that contained all the artwork for a designed game. The teams posted the games, and also created a website for the game with screen shots and a demo video. To see the games we made, check out the Global Game Jam - NMSU link.

On Sunday, we shared our games with each other.
