Family and Consumer Sciences

  • 100% National Exam Pass Rate: The dietetic interns from the class of 2012-2014 achieved a 100% pass rate within the first year after graduation on the national exam to become a registered dietitian. The pass rate is an important factor in maintaining the accreditation of the program. Dr. Wanda Eastman, professor in Human Nutrition and Dietetic Sciences, directs the dietetic internship which is also a master's program.

Extension Family and Consumer Sciences

  • Diverse Workforce Grant: Nancy Flores, Extension Specialist in Food Science and Technology, was awarded a grant of $320,000 over four years from the National Institute of Food and Agriculture at USDA. Her collaborators are Dr. Hongmei Luo and Dr. Jessica Houston in Chemical Engineering. The purpose of the grant is to provide Hispanic undergraduate and graduate students in food science and engineering with research experiences, professional development, and internships to develop a more diverse workforce at USDA.

Animal and Range Sciences

  • Top Animal Science Professor: Dennis Hallford, Regents Professor and Distinguished Achievement Professor in the Department of Animal and Range Sciences, was recently named one of the Top 20 Animal Science Professors in the country by He is noted for the flair and wit he brings to difficult subject materials in anatomy and physiology and endocrinology courses. Hallford has received over 20 awards for his teaching, research, and service at the college, university, regional and national level in his 40 years at NMSU and is the author/co-author of over 600 refereed journal articles, proceedings, and abstracts.

Plant and Environmental Sciences

  • Collaboration: A team from NMSU and UTEP - Rich Pratt, Professor, Jim Libbin, Interim Dean, Bill Hargrove, and Stanley Mubako (UTEP), traveled to The Institute Polytechnique, LaSalle, Beauvais to discuss research and instruction to initiate collaboration between our two institutions.
