New Mexico Master Gardeners

Did someone mention wind? Summer solstice is only a month away and gardeners are longing for the end of the spring winds. Are you and your plants ready for the dry heat of a NM summer? The tree cotton is flying alongside the elm seed discs as they find shelter and plant themselves in nooks and crannies before this unnoticed. The vibrant yellow and intense sweet fragrance of Spanish broom sits regally next to Apache plume's pink tufts and white rosettes while tiny green leaved branches hold them up. Two blossoms for the price of one, a very hearty shrub. In southern New Mexico the chile fields and pecan orchards are once again being irrigated. In northern New Mexico the acequias spill into orchards filled with every kind of apple. And vineyards wind their way from the top of the state to the bottom. Ah, the search for shade begins. But once you have found it or the sun finally dips behind the hills, you experience a little slice of heaven.
Are you interested in plants and gardening? Are you a life-long learner? Do you love to share what you're learning with others? The New Mexico Master Gardener Program has a place for you.
