This list is dedicated to four Arachnologists who have contributed significantly to the study of Southwest Spiders:

  • Willis J. Gertsch (IN MEMORIA)
  • Donald Lowrie (IN MEMORIA)
  • Martin Muma (IN MEMORIA)
  • Vincent D. Roth (IN MEMORIA)

With special thanks to Don Lowrie and Vince Roth for their major contributions to the New Mexico and Arizona lists respectively.

This database is based on published and unpublished records available to the authors. Special thanks are due to the late Donald Lowrie and Vincent D. Roth for the many records that they have provided us over the years. James Cokendolpher has also provided us with two records of undescribed Thymoites. Mike Draney examined the spider collection at Western New Mexico University and provided several records from specimens identified by Martin H. Muma.

At present the list contains 55 families, 272 genera and 1061 species. Family and generic names are based on Platnick 2010 (The World Spider Catalog, Version 11.0, American Museum of Natural History, NY at http://research.amnh.org/iz/spiders/catalog/) We have also added a references section. It is hoped that this database will be of use to arachnologists and researchers in biodiversity for this region. Any valid records and/or references for the area covered which are not included in the current text would be appreciated.
