September County College Week set for Sept. 14-18

Eleven County College sessions are planned for Sept. 14-18 in Socorro. Featured will be the entire Budgeting and Public Finance Track of classes, affiliate classes for Assessors, Treasurers and Clerks, and homeland security classes for Commissioners, Managers, Fire and Emergency Managers, E-911 and related personnel. A preliminary schedule (revised June 12) is at the link below. Homeland Security classes were moved to later in the week. The schedule continues to be subject to addition and change.

Payment options expanded for September classes; Registration simplified

Registration for both affiliate and CPM classes will be handled on the on-line County College registration site for the September County College Week in Socorro, Sept. 14-18. The registration will open in July.

Payment options will include individual CPM class payments for $75 each; County College Week Pass for up to 11 classes for $450; and a County College Half-week Pass for up to six classes for $300. Both Week and Half-week passes can cover both CPM and affiliate classes. Those who choose to take only affiliate classes can directly pay their affiliate $50 per affiliate class.

For those taking full advantage of the County College Week Pass, classes are less than $41 each. Similarly, those taking full advantage of the County College Half-week Pass pay $50 per class.

In addition, Homeland Security classes are fully sponsored by a grant through the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

Appeals process, electives policy, and CPS capstone session set by curriculum committee

Those who took County College classes that are similar to newly numbered CPM classes may appeal to substitute them for CPM classes required for certifications. The County College Core Curriculum Committee decided on the process at its meeting on June 3 in Hobbs. Individuals desiring a course substitution should email the County College Academic Director Dr. Diane Prindeville with their requests at dmprinde@nmsu.edu

The same appeals process applies for substitution of up to three Affiliate County College classes in place of elective CPM classes required for certification.

The Core Curriculum Committee also instituted a capstone assessment session for those earning a Certified Public Supervisor (CPS) designation. The free three-hour session will challenge students, who have completed all class requirements for a CPS, to apply what they have learned in a problem-solving activity as their last requirement for certification.

Hobbs meeting boasts record County College participation; 15 more graduate

Almost 200 individuals took one or more County College classes June 2-4 in Hobbs, setting new highs in participation. Twelve different classes in 13 class sessions were offered -- eight on County College Day, June 2 and five more during affiliate sessions of the NMAC Annual Conference on June 3 and 4.

Fifteen more individuals completed requirements for Certified Public Officials designation. Six achieved that during March County College Week and nine more during the June sessions. Leadership New Mexico Local Government Leadership Program going on transcripts

A listing of graduates of the Leadership New Mexico Local Government Leadership Program has been conveyed to County College so students' completion of the program can be reflected on County College student transcripts. County College enrollees, who have completed the program, are credited with four elective classes toward requirements for a Certified Public Official designation. A total of 18 classes are required for the CPO. Those with questions may contact Terry Canup at tcanup@nmsu.edu

Affiliates adopt certification plans

Four affiliates took steps during meetings at March County College Week in Las Cruces to adopt certification curricula specific to their members.

The Assessors Affiliate, which held its spring meeting in conjunction with County College Week, adopted a rigorous 26-class curriculum to earn a New Mexico Certified Public Assessment Officer designation.

The Treasurers Affiliate Curriculum Committee conferred with New Mexico Treasurer James Lewis and adopted a 21-class curriculum. Those who complete the 21 classes, will earn a Certified New Mexico Treasury Official designation.

The Health Care Affiliate adopted an 18-class curriculum to earn a New Mexico Certified County Health Care Official designation, including five affiliate-specific classes and 13 selected CPM classes.

To see requirements for these new certifications, click "Certification Programs and Requirements" on the left navigation bar on this page.

The Clerks Affiliate Curriculum Committee outlined the development of affiliate-specific classes to earn emphases in conjunction with CPO, CPS, and CPM designations. Classes for that program are now under review.
