Los Lunas
NMSU presents annual forage growers workshop in Los Lunas
New Mexico State University Cooperative Extension Service will present its annual forage growers workshop on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at UNM-Valencia Campus, 280 La Entrada Road, in Tome.

The workshop, hosted by NMSU Valencia County Cooperative Extension Service, NMSU Extension Plant Sciences Department, and the NMSU Small Farm and Ranch Task Force, will be from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

N.M. Secretary of Agriculture Jeff Witte will be the keynote speaker to open the workshop at 8 a.m.

Registration fee is $20, which includes program materials, door prizes and lunch.

Presentations will include:

  • Key arthropod pests of common forage crops.
  • Using gall mites for field bindweed control in pastures and other forage crops.
  • Building soil health in forage production systems.
  • How to optimize your fertilization for forages.
  • Efficient irrigation for forage production.
  • New Mexico noxious weed free forage program.
  • Weed control in alfalfa and other forage crops.
  • Do-it-yourself invasive weed and brush control.

Pruning with John Ball
Trees and Tree Pruning - a special lecture by Dr. John Ball! Think Trees NM is pleased to host Dr. John Ball speaking at the Albuquerque Garden Center (10120 Lomas Blvd. NE, in Los Altos Park).

Dr. Ball is a professor and Extension Specialist at South Dakota State University. He travels and lectures all across the country on trees, tree pruning, tree care, tree worker safety, and more. In this presentation, he will be focusing on the pruning needs and methods for landscape trees.

This event is free and open to all Master Gardeners, Tree Stewards, Docents, and similar community volunteers from around the state. Plan on joining us for this exciting presentation on tree care and pruning. Though free, registration is required as seating is limited!
