The Quay County Extension Service is hosting a very important workshop, Affordable Wills, on July 24 at the Quay Extension office. We will discuss the papers you will need to help your family care for you and your estate in your later years. Learn the different types of estate planning tools and how you can create your own inexpensive will. Workshop will be presented by FCS Agent, Brenda Bishop.

Two sessions will be offered:
  • Lunch and Learn (12:10-12:50 p.m.) -
  • Bring your lunch and watch the presentation as you eat. Beverages will be available. This workshop from will be a fast paced one so you can get back to work on time.
  • Afternoon session (1:30 p.m.) -
  • If you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere, this workshop is for you. There will be plenty of time for idea sharing and looking at some of the online sites to help you prepare a will.

Beginner's Walking Group
The Quay County Extension, along with the Fitness & Nutrition Committee of the Quay County Health Council, invite you to join a Beginner's Walking Group.

This group will start waking July 24 and try to continue through September. We will meet at the Tucumcari Fitness Complex, by the High School Auditorium, each Monday at 8:30 a.m. We will do a few stretches and walk at our own pace around the paths. The weather should be cool enough to walk safely this early in the morning. Wear good shoes and bring a bottle of water. You may start at any time! No charge! No Registration! Just show up!

After all we all need some motivation to accomplish this so what better way than to be part of a group or having a buddy that is counting on you to be there. So help and join me, Brenda Bishop, Quay County FCS Agent, to stay motivated as I start a walking group for beginners. More info...

4-H | Cooking 101 - The Basics
Quay County Extension's Brenda Bishop, Family & Consumer Sciences Agent, will be hosting cooking workshops on Aug. 4, 9 to 1 p.m., Quay Extension Office. This is 2nd in the series.

This workshop series is open to novice, junior, and senior 4-H members and their guests. Come learn the skills to make delicious food to impress friends and family. There is a special gift for everyone who attends both 101 sessions.

We will be preparing lots of delicious food and an entire meal to eat. Special attention will be given to being a good host and guest. Class size is limited to a minimum of 8 and a max of 12. Call 575-461-0562 now to reserve your spot.

Field Day | Agricultural Science Center at Tucumcari
The Field Day will take place Aug. 8, 2:45 p.m., Agricultural Science Center in Tucumcari. Registration for the afternoon program is 2:45 p.m. while registration for the dinner and evening program is 4:30 p.m.

The afternoon program begins with Jerry Hawkes discussing the Tucumcari Irrigation Project followed by Sal Lopez and Lee Gallegos discussing workers' compensation law regarding farms and ranches.

The evening program includes a free catered dinner and keynote address by Chad Smith, CEO of New Mexico Farm and Ranch Bureau. After dinner there is a hay wagon tour with presentations of selected research projects followed by refreshments. More info...

Quay County FCS Agent, Brenda Bishop, will be hosting a hands-on canning workshop for low acid foods like vegetables, Aug. 8, Quay Extension Office. Two sessions available: 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Plan two hours for the class.

Learn how to identify which foods must be pressure canned and how to safely process food. Proper techniques will be discussed. Each participant will take home something canned.

The 62nd NM WRRI Annual New Mexico Water Conference will be held Aug. 15 - 16, NM Tech Macey Center, Socorro.

The theme is Hidden Realities of New Water Opportunities. A highlight of each year's annual water conference is a poster session where participants can learn about current water research taking place around the state and region. The poster session will be on Aug. 16 and offers a wonderful opportunity for networking with state and regional water experts. We anticipate about 200 attendees at this year's conference.

The Call for Poster Abstracts seeks abstracts for posters on any water research or management topic. We encourage interested students, researchers, and practitioners to submit poster abstracts via the online submission process.
