The Sewing Workshop will be held Jan. 20, 1:30 to 4 p.m., Quay County Extension Office, 216 E Center Street, Tucumcari.

This workshop is for new sewers enrolled in the Sewing I project. We will be learning how to run the machine and basic sewing techniques. Each sewer will make a hair scrunchie to take home! No supplies are needed.

Strong Seniors Stay Young Program
The Quay County Extension Service and Mesalands Community College will be offering the Strong Seniors Stay Young Program. Classes will run from Jan. 24 - Apr. 27, Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., Mesalands Community College. This is an exercise program for middle-aged and older men and women. The new session will be starting Jan. 24 and last twelve weeks. The classes will be co-led by Phil Tafone, College Fitness Center Director and Brenda Bishop, Extension FCS Agent.

To enroll, an information packet must be picked up from the Extension Office at 216 E. Center Street. The forms must be filled out and a doctor's release must be obtained before the start of class. The cost for the series of classes is $20.00 per person and must be paid on the first day of class. Persons who have taken the class previously do not need a doctor's release, but must reserve a spot. Class is limited to 30 people.

Baking With Sourdough
Join us Wednesday, Jan. 25th at the Quay County Extension Office, 216 E Center Street, Tucumcari, for this fun workshop! You will receive tips for starting and maintaining your own sourdough and learn secrets for baking successfully with sourdough. Recipes and samples will be provided. There will even be door prizes.

There are two time slots to choose from: The "Lunch and Learn" will be from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. (bring a lunch). Iced tea and bread samples will be provided. An afternoon class will be held beginning at 2:00 p.m. Since we have a little more time here, participants will get a feel for the dough.

It is a fun, action-packed workshop where you will learn about 4-H, some of the activities we do, and meet other 4-H members.

During the workshop, we will play games, practice leadership skills, participate in a community service activity, and create an item to enter in the fair. Snacks will be served.

New Mexico 4-H Shooting Sports Leader Certification dates are set! Our next training will be held Feb. 17 - 19 in Carlsbad. The policy for maintaining certification, according to our policies and procedures, is as follows:

Maintaining State 4-H Shooting Sports Certification - To maintain certification an instructor/leader must be active two out of three consecutive years. If inactive for two consecutive years, re-certification is required.

Master Composter Volunteer Training
The master composter volunteer training, sponsored by Bernalillo County Extension Master Composters, will be held on April 12, and on four Saturdays: April 15 to May 6.

This is a focused "train-the-trainer" program which prepares individuals to become volunteer educators in a variety of composting methods for the community. Applicants are expected to continue participating in the BCEMC Association, volunteering at least 10 hours per year educating the community in the science, benefits, methods, and techniques of composting. It is not necessary to be a resident of Bernalillo County to take the training.
