NMSU to host ranchers' roundtable Aug. 20 in Corona
New Mexico State University's Corona Range and Livestock Research Center is continuing its popular Ranchers' Roundtable series with a group discussion on livestock nutrition and planning on Wednesday, Aug. 20.

The free event is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Southwest Center for Rangeland Sustainability. Lunch will be served. For directions to the center and more information on the seminar, visit corona.nmsu.edu

2014 Ride for the 4-H Clover
The second annual New Mexico State University Cooperative Extension Service Ride for the 4-H Clover motorcycle tour will cover more than 600 miles over the two days, Aug. 23-24.

A kick-off breakfast where riders will be welcomed and given an overview will be from 7-8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Dona Ana County Extension office in Las Cruces. They’ll roll out of Las Cruces at 8 a.m., headed to Silver City through Hatch, New Mexico, via Highway 185 and historic Hillsboro, New Mexico, via Highway 152.

Cost is just $75 per person, which includes lunches along the route, dinner in Socorro, and prizes. NMSU students can join the ride at a reduced cost of $50. Riders will also receive a pin commemorating this unique ride. Proceeds will benefit Extension 4-H youth programs. Need not drive or own a motorcycle to join.

Small Farm Conference
The Hidalgo, Grant, and Luna County Cooperative Extension Offices are hosting the Small Farm Conference. The day will get started with a tour and meet and greet at the Silver City Farmers Market. Participates will then go on a farm tour before meeting at the Grant County Extension Office (2610 N. Silver St. Silver City)) for presentations covering, small farm economics, marketing, good agriculture practices, food safety, and business planing.

Lunch will be provided and will consist of a winter squash soup, salad, and artisan breads.

There is a $5.00 registration fee to be paid at the door to help cover the cost of lunch.

Save the date:

Everyone is invited to "Project Discovery: An evening of music, dance and the science behind the world's hottest chile pepper," at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, in the Atkinson Recital Hall.

Come take part in an exciting night of dancing, musical entertainment and a conversation with Paul Bosland, the world's foremost authority on chile peppers and director of NMSU's Chile Pepper Institute.

Also featuring the world's greatest salsa bar and an after-party on the Horseshoe. All proceeds will go toward student scholarships. More info...

Are you planting or buying your first pecan orchard? Or do you want to increase the yields, quality and profitability of the pecan orchards you already have? Come, let experts from NMSU and University of Arizona teach you all about pecan production in the West!

Registration for the three day course is $300 per participant. Registration includes Lectures, binder with lecture notes, 3 lunches, refreshments, and field trip transportation.
