National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP) - Las Cruces
NMSU Extension program helps pre-diabetics make a lifestyle change The National Diabetes Prevention Program is an evidence-based, lifestyle intervention program. It's presented by trained lifestyle coaches / registered dietitians. The program teaches strategies for healthy eating, increasing physical activity, facing emotional, behavioral and family challenges that can come along with changing their habits. The next session in Las Cruces begins Feb. 3, 2015, and space is available. To qualify for the program, the participants must be at least 18 years old, be overweight, and meet one or more of the following criteria:
  • Fasting blood glucose 100 to 125 mg/dl
  • Two-hour glucose range 140 to 199 mg/dl
  • HbA1c between 5.7 and 6.4l
  • History of gestational diabetes.

NMSU experts provide guidance at Western Pecan Growers conference, trade show
An update on the proposed pecan marketing order, tips for success in doing business in China and a look at mechanical pruning techniques will be among the presentations at the annual Western Pecan Growers Association conference and trade show March 1-3 in Las Cruces.

Free Kitchen Creations cooking class
This 4 week cooking school is designed for people with type 2 diabetes.

Learn to plan and prepare meals that help manage diabetes. Participants receive a free manual and cookbooks. Classes will be held Tuesdays from 5:30 8 8:30 p.m. as Ruidoso High School, 125 Warrior Rd.

Dona Ana County 4-H Fun Shoot

Doña Ana County 4-H will be having a Fun Shoot on March 7, 2015. Adult and youth teams are welcomed.

Lunch will be provided. We will also have a raffle. Proceeds benefit the county 4-H program.

AES/CES Publications Workshop
This workshop will provide faculty/staff with a review of the publication production process for new and revised Extension/Experiment Station Numbered Publications (guides, circulars, annual data reports, research reports, technical reports, research bulletins, task force publications, and variety test reports).

Workshop topics will include submission guidelines, writing and copyright issues, and reordering/distribution procedures.

The workshop will he held at NMSU in Milton Hall, Room 85, from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

This free workshop focuses on effective grant writing strategies for USDA Agricultural Marketing Serve (AMS) programs such as Farmers' Market Promotional Programs and the Local Food Promotional programs.
NMSU's Community Resources & Economic Development Specialist, Michael Patrick, will conduct the workshop.
