Los Lunas
Thursdays are "Bug Nights" at Los Lunas science center
Have you been wondering about that strange looking bug in your garden? Find out what it is, whether it's a friend or foe, and how to control it if necessary during the "Bug Nights" walking tours at New Mexico State University's Agricultural Science Center at Los Lunas, 1036 Miller Road.

Tess Grasswitz, NMSU's urban/small farm integrated pest management specialist, and Newt McCarty, Valencia County Extension agricultural agent, will host four Bug Nights on Thursdays, Aug. 14, Aug. 28, Sept. 11 and Sept. 25. The free classes will start at 6 p.m. and conclude at approximately 7:30 p.m.

There is no charge for attending these events, but pre-registration would be appreciated. To register, call 505-865-7340 at least 24 hours before each class. Remember to wear appropriate clothing, and bring water to drink.

Los Lunas
Chile Field Day
The Los Lunas Agricultural Science Center (1036 Miller st. SW, Los Lunas, NM) will being hosting this year's Chile Field Day.

The event will take place on August 22, 2014 from 9:00am until noon. Field tours and presentations on current chile research projects, as well as a chile roasting demonstration will be conducted. Taste tests of an assortment of different chile varieties will also be highlighted. Attendance is free and the public is welcome to attend.

Los Lunas
Organic farm walking tour series-Los Lunas
New Mexico State University’s College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences and the New Mexico Department of Agriculture’s Organic Program are presenting a series of four farm tours hosted by organic growers throughout New Mexico who produce a variety of crops.

The second farm tour will be Wednesday, Aug. 27, from 1 to 4 p.m. at NMSU’s Agricultural Science Center at Los Lunas, where the visitors will learn about the organic pest management research Grasswitz is conducting. More info...
