Herbarium Capstone Project: Revision and update of the Provisional identification key to the Woody Ornamental Plants of the NMSU Campus and Environs by Dr. Kelley Allred (unpublished data), including a reevaluation of the native/exotic status of the approximately 120 included species. Training and skills learned: 1) plant identification, 2) research methods involving physical and electronic resources, 3) vouchering species with photos and herbarium specimen, 4) identification of suitable native plant species that may replace exotic or otherwise unwanted plants currently growing on campus (e.g., more drought tolerant, lower water requirements, cold and CaCO3 tolerant).
