Organ Mountain-Desert Peaks National Monument Tour

Established in 2014 under the American Antiquities Act of 1906, the Organ Mountain-Desert Peaks National Monument protects significant prehistoric, historic, geologic, and biologic resources of scientific interest in the desert surrounding Las Cruces.

This tour will explore the Organ Mountains area. Resource people will teach about how the Monument came about and it’s features, economic impact, and educational potential.

Afternoon temperatures in June can get into the 100s with very low relative humidity. The group will take a moderate 1.5-2 hour guided hike from the Dripping Springs Visitor Center which will require a moderate fitness level. It is a marked well-traveled trail.

Please wear comfortable hiking shoes, a hat, and other comfortable/protective hiking clothes. Bring your favorite sunscreen and Water and electrolyte sports drinks will be provided on the bus for you to carry on the hike.

For those feel the heat and hiking might be problems, you can explore the area around the Visitors Center or get back on the bus while others hike.
